2024 MSI Annual Meeting: Registration is Now Open!

MSI is pleased to announce the dates for next years Annual Meeting. We will be having our 2024 Annual Meeting in Huntington, California, USA. Our host will be Tim Thibault, who is the Curator, Woody Plant Materials for the Huntington Botanical Gardens.

Tim and his team will start with a Pre-Conference tour on Thursday, February 15 . It will include visiting the San Diego Natural History Museum, plus the Balboa Park. Then on to the San Diego Botanical Garden where we will have a lunch and tour of the gardens.

The main Conference will kick off at The Huntington starting Friday night February 16 with a reception and end Sunday, February 18. Through the weekend we will spend time visiting three major gardens surrounding Pasadena: Descanso Gardens, Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden and, of course, The Huntington.

The Post-Conference tour runs from Monday, February 19 through Wednesday, February 21 and features the Santa Barbara region. We will visit the Aloes in Wonderland nursery and display garden, a classic Old Mission, and Lotusland. In between we will tour a few wineries, such as the Deovlet Wines, named in Wine and Spirits "Top 100 Wineries" for the fifth time. On our way back to Pasadena we will swing by a commercial avocado grove and the magnolia collection of an MSI Member.

Gap Analysis Published by GCCM

The Global Conservation Gap Analysis of Magnolia has been released.  This publication presents a summary review of the ex situ and in situ conservation status of 336 Magnolia species. Using information from global databases such as BGCI's PlantSearch and a survey of the global botanic garden and conservation community this analysis aims to provide information to organizations working on Magnolia conservation and encourage next steps for collaborative conservation of the world’s Magnolia species. This work was completed in collaboration with Botanic Gardens Conservation International and with support from the USDA Forest Service, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Fondation Franklinia and Magnolia Society International.
