The Proceedings of the Second International Symposium on the Family Magnoliaceae is a fine hard-cover book of 304 pages that features 28 scientific and popular papers on Magnolia contributed by prominent Magnoliaceae authors, including Philippe De Spoelberch and Koen Camelbeke (Belgium); Xia Nian-He, Sima Yong-Kang and Zeng Qing-Wen (China); Marcela Serna González (Colombia); Alejandro Palmarola (Cuba); Thierry Lamant (France); Hiroshi Azuma (Japan); Hans Nooteboom (Netherlands); Jim Gardiner (UK); Peter Del Tredici, Dick Figlar, Gary Knox and Kevin Parris (US); as well as reports on diversity, distribution and conservation of magnolias from other exotic places including India, Papua New Guinea, Thailand and Vietnam.
The book features many color photos including a large, two-page, photo of all the participants as well as various pictures of the participants exploring South China Botanical Garden, Nankunshan Natural Reserve, and Xiaoqiaogou National Natural Reserve in Fadou Town, Xichou County in the Yunnan province. A complete list of participants is given with their contact information and affiliation. It is certainly a keepsake for all who attended the symposium, which was held in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China on May 5-9, 2009 -- as well as an interesting and unique reference book on magnolias for researchers and enthusiasts alike.
